The event brought together PhD candidates and early-career researchers from the humanities, law, and social sciences, building on an informal research network of scholars working on digital labour in and from the Netherlands. We warmly congratulate Karthika for her nomination among the top three… Read More »Institute for Management Research (IMR) Day at Radboud University (21 November 2025) - [Annual Conference of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) in Montreal (9-12 July 2025)](https://digital-work.eu/annual-conference-of-the-society-for-the-advancement-of-socio-economics-sase-in-montreal-9-12-july-2025/): Our team attended the 2025 Annual Conference of the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE), hosted at the Palais des Congrès in Montreal, Canada. During the conference, each of us had the opportunity to present our research and engage with scholars working on related topics. The warm July weather made it easy to enjoy the city between sessions. We took the chance to explore nearby Chinatown, where we enjoyed a couple of great meals together (pic related). We are already looking forward to the next Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics conference in Bordeaux (2026)! - [Regulating Decent Work (RDW) 9th Conference, International Labour Organization (2-4 July 2025)](https://digital-work.eu/regulating-decent-work-rdw-9th-conference-international-labour-organization-2-4-july-2025/): Karthika presented her research at the Regulating Decent Work conference in Geneva, bringing together insights developed across earlier stages of the project, where she presented in Session 4.5: Beyond the Algorithm. Her work now shows how interacting forms of algorithmic control shape worker experiences across digital labour platforms, not as isolated technical tools but as interrelated systems with regulatory implications. The conference offered a space to connect this work to broader policy debates. Alongside the presentation, her photo essay Intergenerational Stories of Decent Work (based on earlier ethnographic work) was exhibited, extending these reflections beyond academia. - [Tackling the Impersonality of Algorithmic Management Workshop, Tilburg University (18 June 2025)](https://digital-work.eu/tackling-the-impersonality-of-algorithmic-management-workshop-tilburg-university-18-june-2025/): Karthika recently presented her ongoing research at the workshop Tackling the Impersonality of Algorithmic Management at Tilburg University. The event brought together discussions on how workers experience and interpret platform-mediated work. Invited by Tim Christiaens (Assistant Professor at Tilburg University), the workshop created space to reflect on why and how workers turn to public review platforms to make sense of their experiences. These discussions helped sharpen the underlying questions guiding Karthika’s research, particularly how such reviews can be read as expressions of worker experiences within algorithmic systems. The workshop offered a space to test situating this work conceptually, particularly in relation to human resource management and organisational perspectives. Additionally, the visits to the university’s AI and social robot simulation labs further offered a tangible sense of how these debates are already unfolding in practice. In the morning, Andrea M. Herrmann (project’s PI) provided a synthesis of our project’s progress to the audience. Afterwards, Paola Tubaro (Research Director at CNRS and advisory board member) shared insights into her current and future research on digital inequalities.
